'The Chainsmokers' 'Closer' To Beat Mariah Carey’s 16-Week Reign In Hot 100 List: Is A New Record Coming?

"The Chainsmokers" hit song "Closer" featuring singer Halsey snatches billboard's top spot from Drake after hitting 11 straight weeks in the first spot of the top 100 list and breaking "One Dance" 10-week streak. Will "Closer" retain top spot long enough to break and set a new record as the 58-year old list's longest reigning top song?

Mariah Carey collaboration with Boyz II Men in 1996 currently owns the longest record when the song "One Sweet Day" sat atop the list for 16 straight weeks. Now on its 11th week, "Closer" is getting very much closer at snatching one more record.

"The Chainsmokers" hit is putting up a very good fight as it dominates 3 out of 3 main component charts of Hot 100 for five straight weeks now. Billboard reports 84,000 downloads via Song Sales in the week ending October 27, a whopping 31.9 million streams in the U.S. via Streaming Songs and a monstrous 155 million Radio Song airplay listeners. Only one other song managed to set this type of record since the launch of Streaming Songs in 2013 - "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson with Bruno Mars.

"Closer" threw in special boosters in the race as it launched its official music video on October 24 which immediately raised U.S Youtube views by 8 percent, that's about 16 million replays.

Ironically, "Closer" downloads is travelling towards the opposite direction with only 84,000 downloads, that's the lowest figure a Digital Song Top Song downloads for the past 10 years breaking yet another record owned by "Lips of an Angel" by Hinder which held top spot on October 28, 2006 chart with only 75,000 downloads.

Meanwhile, other songs are joining in the race with pretty impressive take-offs - "Starboy" by the Weeknd which features artist Draft Punk, "24K Magic" by Bruno Mars and "Don't Wanna Know" by "Maroon 5".

"The Chainsmokers" just might just win the race, says Inquisitr, "Closer" has still a long road. Will you help take "Closer" all the way?
