VR Battle Has Begun: Oculus Rift vs the PlayStation VR vs HTC Vive; Which Is Better?

The battle between the most efficient and better VR in the market has begun. Among the companies that have released their own VR are Oculus Rift, now acquired by Facebook, PlayStation VR, and the HTC, but the question remains: Which is better? Read on to find out.

The next six months will undoubtedly bring about new changes in the fledgling VR market. Advance features, display capability, and game output are all the important categories that have to be covered by the new VR revolution.

The senior vice president at HTC Rikard Steiber has said that the Vive VR headset under development has plenty of form factor updates. Steering wheels and varied weapons for arcade-style VR gaming are now being improved to increase the competitiveness of the unit's peripherals.

HTC also announced that the upcoming year will serve as the ground zero for VR gaming. Annual innovation cycles are necessary to keep up with the expected demand from gamers and the Vive headsets should evolve in order to have excellent performance with cutting-edge design.

Right now, the Oculus Rift from Oculus Inc. (which was later acquired by Facebook) and Sony's PlayStation VR are the main competitors of HTC Vive in the VR ring. The Vive headset was launched in April and is currently being sold for $799.

In some areas, the VR headsets available in the market have striking similarities. Both the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift use Velcro straps that can be adjusted and the interior faceplate has been designed with comfortable padding. But the Vive unit is still heavier than the Rift due to its 37 sensors installed in the front.

The Oculus Rift has a more sleek design with fabric coating on the exterior that gives a lighter feel. Both VR headsets have integrated audio with a headphone attachment and can connect to HDMI to PC along with a connection capability via USB.

The other competitor which is Sony's PlayStation VR headset has an OLED display which is split vertically, allowing it to deliver a resolution of 960 x 1080 on each eye. The Rift's resolution is around 2160 x 1200 that utilizes two OLED displays generating more pixels.

VR screens need to run at very high refresh rates to minimize the user's eye strain. The Oculus Rift manages to top at 90Hz but the PlayStation VR can pull off an amazing 120Hz which is also higher than the HTC Vive. With this specs, only time will tell who will come out on top in the VR battleground.
