Earthquake News & Update: Oklahoma Earthquake Shook The Largest Oil Storage Hub In The US With Magnitude 5!

The reported fifth strongest earthquake to be recorded in Oklahoma Earthquake shook the Oklahoma Oil Storage hub. Such tremor damaged several buildings in the area.

According to NPR, the magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook Central Oklahoma on Sunday evening which resulted to damaging several infrastructures and buildings in the area. Multiple aftershocks also followed after Oklahoma Earthquake.

The Oklahoma Earthquake epicenter was about a mile west of the town of Cushing. Cushing is the largest commercial crude oil storage in the whole of North America and the southern terminus of the Keystone pipeline.

As a result of the Oklahoma Earthquake, public schools in Cushing were closed to assess damages. From the assessment, it was found out that two of the public schools had ceiling tiles down and other damages to the façade.

It was good news though that the Oklahoma Earthquake did not result in any injuries and casualties. The reported gas leaks which were caused by the shocking were contained.

A spokesperson of Magallan Mainstream Partners who is the one responsible for the operation of pipelines and old storage facilities said the company had to shut down operations to check the integrity of assets. It reported that there were no damages.

The Oklahoma Earthquake recently is not the only earthquake to hit the state. Back in Sept., the governor declared a state of emergency after an earthquake which measures 5.3 in magnitude.

As earlier reported, USGS announced that pumping wastewater underground during oil and gas production has caused parts of Oklahoma and Texas to be seismically active like California. The diggings and other activities related to it somehow altered the constitution of the land.

As added by Governing, after the Oklahoma Earthquake, the OCC Pipeline Safety Department has been in constant contact with pipeline operators in oil storage in Cushing. This is to ensure that there are no further reported damages as it may be a cause for more serious issues like gas leaks and unexpected explosions.
