T-Mobile Rolls Out Security Update For Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

Owners of the T-Mobile variant of Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be pleased to know that their devices are receiving increased security and protection. With the slew of new hacking and malware operations increasingly targeted at mobile devices, the update comes as a breather for Samsung's users, especially since the panic with the Note 7 pullout.

The specific vulnerabilities that have been targeted were not yet named, according to a report from the Android Security Bulletin, pending a minor update by mid-November. Though the security update is seen as a minor intervention towards curbing the rise of mobile device hacking and malware injections, it also settles some major issues with the Samsung flagship's earlier issues.

For one, the security update provides support for 4x4 MIMO, a kind of multiple input and output tech making download speeds much faster. This makes the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge the first smartphones to support the technology. The security patch upgrades the Galaxy S7 (SM-G930T) to software version G930TUVU4APK1, while the Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-G935T) receives an update to G935TUVU4APK1.

Alongside the 4x4 MIMO support comes DL-256QAM/UL-64QAM technologies. The quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) creates a more sustainable upload and download speed, maxing out the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge's data throughput to 256-bit downloads and 64-bit uploads.

In a report by Android Authority, Samsung has also rolled out its Android Nougat beta program for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The APK file is currently available and hosted at XDA Developers as Samsung servers are still updating as of the moment. Samsung's beta release of the latest Android OS is expected to run up until mid-December.

According to a report by TechWorld, big data throughputs might soon be available through technologies like Li-Fi. With the release of new, highly capable router and Internet speeds, having the 4x4 MIMO support for a device is a great boost.
