GoPro Karma Drone 2016 Recall Due To Loss Of Power During Flight?

Only a few days after its second week out in the market, GoPro has declared a recall for its newly released drone, the Karma Drone 2016. This is exactly 16 days after the product was released on October 23, 2016. Among the speculations as to the reasons behind the recall included lose of power in-flight.

Chief Executive and Founder of the sports camera and drone manufacturer, Nicholas Woodman, has stated that safety is one of their top priority as regards product recall of the GoPro Karma Drone 2016. Plus, the company is working in close coordination with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Federal Aviation Administration in order to address the issue. Nicholas Woodman was also very apologetic for the inconvenience and said that they are doing everything they can to make the return and refund of the GoPro Karma Drone 2016 as easy as possible.

Random power failures during the operation of the GoPro Karma Drone 2016 have been reported by a few of the drone owners. By far, there are no reports of incidences such as injuries or property damage due to the said defect of the GoPro Karma Drone 2016.

Last September 19, the $799 GoPro Karma base package was out, which included the drone itself, and a handheld gimbal attachment. However, it did include the required GoPro Hero4 or Hero5. The price of a bundle with the Hero5 Session is $999, whereas a version with the regular GoPro Hero5 costs $1,099.

According to GoPro, the Karma Drone 2016 has sold 2,500 units, and customers who bought one unit can directly return the Karma Drone 2016 to the original place of purchase or to any Go Pro outlet for a full refund. Replacement units are not being offered at this time until the issue is resolved.

This will be a significant setback for the GoPro Company and they still have no knowledge when the shipment of the GoPro Karma Drone 2016 will resume.
