‘NES Classic Edition’ Sold Out! Orders Being Canceled, Nintendo In Crisis? eBay Listings Reach Up To $5K

Nintendo's NES Classic Edition is flying off the shelves in both digital and physical stores. Reports of orders being canceled by major retailers who were unable to replenish their inventory.

Who would have thought that a relaunched version of a 33-year-old gaming console would sell out its next-gen counterparts? The re-launching of Nintendo's NES console in the form of the "NES Classic Edition," has caused some of the biggest headaches for game retailers this past couple of days. The console designed to run 8-bit games is one of the hottest items in the gaming industry today.

The high demand for the "NES Classic Edition" is the crisis Nintendo is currently facing, with every store displaying the "SOLD OUT" sign in the console's dedicated aisle. Nintendo already assured the public that stocks will soon be available, but the public thinks otherwise. The console's value is currently at its peak, the console, which is priced at $60, is now appearing on eBay listings with prices reaching up to $4,999 based on the latest article by Forbes. Scalpers are also taking advantage of this unexpected surge in the demand of the "NES Classic Edition."

An article from AttackOfTheFanboy featured a tweet from a customer whose order was canceled by Toys R' US, which is a major toy retailer. The tweet showed the contents of the email sent to the customer. A part of the email states the following: "We are reaching out regarding your recent order which had you previously received notification was being delayed awaiting additional inventory. We wanted to make you aware that due to a technical error, online orders of Nintendo's NES Classic Edition were taken that cannot be fulfilled and, as a result, will be canceled."

Nintendo could have underestimated the "NES" market, or they are really running out of stocks, which caused the current dilemma. Whatever the reason is, Nintendo should act quickly before the counterfeits (if there's any) go mainstream. On the other hand, this only proves that Nintendo will always be acknowledged by the gaming community as the main foundation of gaming.
