Easily Overwhelmed? Use It To Your Advantage

People who are easily overwhelmed usually blame it on circumstances only to discover to their dismay, that some people just get by no matter what the circumstances. Unknown to them, that feeling can result not only from external causes such as the environment, circumstances and other people but also internal causes.

Internal causes can include a person's outlook and reaction when there are a lot of things going on that can indeed be overwhelming. Negative emotions like concluding that one is never going to get anything done, that there is just too much to do for one man, can contribute to these internal cases of that feeling of being overwhelmed. It is a matter of attitude and sometimes, negative attitude can become habitual.

Mindbodygreen reported on the research conducted by Dr. Elaine Aron on the characteristics of a highly sensitive person. Being highly sensitive is not commonplace it affects up to 20% of the population. Aron said being highly sensitive can somehow be explained scientifically since it simply means the person has a different nervous system compared to other people who are less sensitive. A highly sensitive person can easily get overwhelmed under any circumstances.

There are many indicators if a person is highly sensitive according to hsperson, which offers a test for those who want to determine if they belong to this group. A highly sensitive person is easily affected by the environment, the mood of other people, needs privacy, easily reacts to strong smell or bright lights and other external stimulants. This type of person, however, has the knack for knowing what to do to put people at ease when faced with a difficult situation.

Huffington Post said Aron has done a lot of research on high sensitive persons and found out that it was pretty common back in the 1990s. Recent publications such as the book "Quiet" by Susan Cain has aroused interest on introversion. In general, being highly sensitive is not bad at all as it carries many positive traits such as being more caring, capacity to feel deeply, and being more reactive emotionally.
