'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' News Updates: Greg Is Gone, What Happens Next? EP Teases About Paula's Future?

"Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" surprised the fans with the departure of its beloved character Greg (Santino Fontana). Just halfway through season 2 of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," fans did not expect to bid goodbye this soon to Greg. To pacify the shocked fans, several interviews came out to explain why Santino Fontana has to go this soon. What happens next after Greg's exit?

In an interview with Vulture, Santino Fontana admitted Greg is really leaving the "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend." According to Fontana, he only signed up to a one-year contract, so it became more challenging when "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" was picked up for season 2. Unfortunately, Greg needs to disappear in the series as Fontana cannot extend his contract anymore. According to Fontana, he was forced to make the tough decision to leave "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" and the actor pointed to his other work commitments and his life, which is based in New York, as reasons for his departure.

Fontana clarified that prior to the confirmation of season 2 of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," there was no assurance of extending his contract with the show, and since a bunch of other commitments came in, he had no choice but to secure the new projects.

Meanwhile, Fontana is currently busy with his new movie. Fontana took to his Twitter account an update on his new film with Dennis Boutsikaris and Laila Robbins.

In another interview, showrunner Aline Brosh McKenna told ET that "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" revolves around the pursuit of happiness, and the departure of Greg agrees with that plot. McKenna detailed that fans of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" have seen how Greg chose to move on to do something he has been wanting to do, and although it does not seem fit to the fans' expectations, Greg chose to leave Rebecca (Rachel Bloom) and study in a business school in Georgia to pursue his happiness.

Furthermore, McKenna confirmed that Greg's departure in "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" is not temporary. Sadly for the fans of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," McKenna mentioned that Greg is gone for good.

After Greg's exit, what can fans of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" expect now from the show? In the interview, McKenna further teased on the next direction of the series. McKenna elaborated the vast potential for the plot of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend." McKenna said the series has deep relationships to further explore, specifically mentioning Paula (Donna Lynne Champlin). "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" will continue its plot on the pursuit of identity, happiness, love, friendship, success and redefining success.
