'Minecraft' The Movie Release Date, News, & Updates: Steve Carell To Join Game's Movie Adaptation

Warner Bros "Minecraft" the movie will star "The Office" Steve Carell. The Steve Carell, the star of the long-running TV sitcom, is considered by many as a good choice. He was nominated for "Foxcatcher" and has had a well-noted run of movies.

First released in 2009, "Minecraft" is one of the latest video games to be transformed for the big screen. This year, there have been several announcements of video games to be filmed or movies based on video games to be shown in movie theaters, reports said.

Prominent among these are "Assassin's Creed" starring Michael Fassbender and a reboot of "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" produced and starring Alicia Vikander. The Guardian reports that the "Minecraft" The Movie will be directed by Rob McElhenney, star of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." He co-wrote the screenplay with Jason Fuchs, writer of "Wonder Woman." The movie is set to be released in May 2019 and Carell was the first actor to be named for the movie.

"Minecraft" is one of the most popular games on mobile. It entails creating objects and building from basic blocks. Since 2009, a lot of interesting things have been created by "Minecraft" players. Among the different objects created within the game are common structures like houses and buildings, as well as siege weapons, catapults, castles, and even vehicles.
