The American Music Awards 2016 kicked off with Gigi Hadid and Pharoah as hosts with performances from Maroon 5, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, and more. But this isn't just any award because the fans voted for their favorite artists to win. The night capped off with Selena Gomez' empowering speech. Check out the list of winners.

American Music Awards 2016: Country Music Category and Top Soundtrack

Among the winners for the Country Music Category include Florida Georgia Line (Favorite Duo or Group), Tim McGraw "Humble And Kind" (Favorite Song), Blake Shelton (Male, Favorite Artist), Carrie Underwood (Female, Favorite Artist), and Carrie Underwood's "Storyteller" (Favorite Album). Meanwhile, Prince's "Purple Rain" bagged the top soundtrack of the year, as reported by USMagazine.

American Music Awards 2016: Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber took home four awards that night comprising Favorite Male Artist (Pop/Rock), Video of the Year with "Sorry," Favorite Album (Pop/Rock) with "Purpose," and Favorite Song (Pop/Rock) "Love Yourself." However, the pop prince himself couldn't make it so he hooked up a Skype call all the way from Italy and performed "Let Me Love You."

American Music Awards 2016: Tour of the Year and Soul/R&B Category

The Queen Beyonce of course got her well-deserved award as Tour of the Year. On another note, Rihanna bagged 3 awards including Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Album with "Anti," and Favorite Song "Work," featuring Drake. Chris Brown also won the Favorite Male Artist award.

American Music Awards 2016: Drake, Zayn Malik, Adele, and Enrique Iglesias

Drake went home with 3 awards, much like Rihanna, Favorite Artist, Favorite Song "Hotline Bling," and Favorite Album "Views." Adele won the Favorite Artist (Adult Contemporary) award. The former One Direction singer took home the New Artist of the Year Un-Leashed By T-Mobile award. And then there's Enrique Iglesias who bagged the Favorite Artist (Latin) award.

The Collaboration of the Year award was given to Fifth Harmony Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, "Work From Home," and Favorite Artist (Alternative Rock) and Favorite Duo or Group (Pop/Rock) were awarded to Twenty One Pilots. The Chainsmokers took home Favorite Artist (Electronic Dance Music).

For the Contemporary Inspirational category, Hillsong United bagged the Favorite Artist award. Time reported that the smallest artist Arianne Grande won the biggest award: Artist of the Year.

Selena Gomez took home her first American Music Awards in the Favorite Female Artist (Pop/Rock) category, to which she gave a very emotional speech, per EOnline: "Most of you knew a lot of my life whether I liked it or not and I had to stop because I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside." She added: "I don't want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what's in here ... If you are broken, you do not have to stay broken."
