Blue Jacket Matt Calvert Scored the Winning Game Shot after Returning With 30 Stitches On His Face

Have you ever seen a hockey game that had turn the white magnificent ice to a pool of blood? It happened with the forward of Blue Jacket Matt Calvert when he had an accident that required 30 stitches on his face. Despite the awful injury, Matt Calvert returned to the game and scored the winning shot over New York Rangers on Friday night.

According to ESPN, the incident occurred when Blue Jacket Matt Calvert took a hard hit from Nick Holden slap shot to the face with 10 minutes and 32 seconds remaining in the second period.

But after getting 36 stitched back up and passing the concussion test as part of the NHL's concussion protocol, the Blue Jacket Matt Calvert returned to the game and scored the game-winning shot. His short-handed goal with 8:25 left in the game to give the Blue Jackets a 4-2 victory.

Blue Jacket Matt Calvert said that his shot was something like that involves with emotions. "It was like riding on an adrenaline. I made the shot and it was great to see it hit the back of the net," Calvert said.

It was a rare feat for Blue Jacket Matt Calvert, who had just one goal and one assist in 14 games heading into Friday night as a third-line winger. The goal lifted the Blue Jackets' in the second rank with a record of 9-4-2 to start the season, which is their best mark through 15 games in franchise history.

Blue Jacket Matt Calvert began his professional career 2011 with the Columbus Blue Jackets' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Springfield Falcons.

Blue Jacket Matt Calvert t scored his first career NHL goal one game later against goaltender Jonathan Quick of the Los Angeles Kings. Calvert also scored a natural hat-trick for the Blue Jackets in a 5-3 win over the Phoenix Coyotes. It was his first hat-trick of Calvert's NHL career and the 19th hat-trick in Blue Jackets franchise history.
