Death Over Pair Of Basketball Shoes: Chicago Congressman's Grandson Shot In The Head By Two Other Teens, Charges Filed

The 15-year-old grandson of Chicago Congressman Danny Davis was shot and killed by two other teens after an argument regarding basketball shoes. The two teens were charged on Sunday and were detained possibly with no chances of bail.

The teenager was identified as Javon Wilson. He was shot in the head on Friday in his Chicago home. Wilson reportedly knew the two teens he was with but their identities remain under wraps. They were said to be a 16-year-old male and a 17-year-old female. The two teenagers were arrested on Saturday and are scheduled for a bond hearing on Sunday.

During the incident, the mother of Wilson went out for a while to pick up food. Wilson was then left with his two brothers, ages 8 and 14, his older sister and an uncle.

Accordingly, the 16-year-old male traded slacks for shoes with the younger brother of Wilson, a 14-year-old. However, the 16-year-old male thought of a better trade when he went to the home of the Wilsons with the 17-year-old girl at around 6:45 p.m.

The pair reportedly forced their way into the home of the Wilsons and had an argument with Javon before they pulled a gun and shot him dead in the head, FOX News reported. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene at around 7:32 P.M.

Chicago Sun-Times also reported that the two teens have been charged with first-degree murder. It was not stated yet how the teens knew each other or how they are related.

Davis said in a statement that he grieves for his family and the young man who pulled the trigger. Davis pointed out that some of the friends and family of the teen who pulled the trigger will no longer see him. Davis also said that he is wondering how a teen would have a gun and who allowed him to have it noting, "...the availability of guns is so prevalent in America you almost can't tell who has a gun."

Wilson was said to be a well-liked sophomore attending Perspective Charter School. It was unclear if the two teens charged also attended Perspective Charter School.

Chicago has been seeing an increase in shooting and homicide incidents. The shootings this year have surpassed the number of shootings last year. It is believed that 3,165 shooting incidents have bene reported this year.
