‘Doctor Who’ 2016 Christmas Special Trailer Released, Air Date; Peter Capaldi Will Return as Doctor for Season 10

"Doctor Who" has released a trailer for its 2016 Christmas Special. It has been a year since the last episode of the long-running series aired. With a large worldwide following which borders on the maniacal, the sci-fi series took a break, but will be back with a regular season soon.

It is expected that Peter Capaldi will be back as the Doctor, but this time with a new companion. "Doctor Who" 2016 Christmas Special may feature the new companion, although this is not assured until the first episode of the season finally starts principal photography.

According to The Verge, "Doctor Who" 2016 Christmas Special is entitled "The Return of Doctor Mysterio" and will air on the BBC on Christmas Day, December 25, 2016. Joining Peter Capaldi in "Doctor Who" 2016 Christmas Special will be UK comedian Matt Lucas, reprising his role as Nardole.

At the same time, the much awaited "Doctor Who" Season 10 will start in April 2017. It has also been said that "Doctor Who" Season 10 might be Peter Capaldi's last as the Doctor. It would be interesting how the producers and writers would write the regeneration scene. When the Doctor dies, he regenerates as a different person or persona, but still the Doctor and able to pilot the TARDIS, the blue police box which he uses as a space/time ship.

The TARDIS is also another important part of the "Doctor Who" storyline. This is not just a prop, but also sometimes is a sentient character in the series.

According to the BBC YouTube channel, the Doctor's next companion will be Pearl Mackie who will play Bill in "Doctor Who" Season 10. Peter Capaldi is also expected to stay only until 2018 and may be replaced during the season. There have been speculations that the next Doctor might be a female, if the thread of series conversations and monologs are any indication.
