Highlander Reboot Eyes John Wick Director Chad Stahelski

The Highlander reboot has started almost eight years ago after the rights was acquired by Lionsgate but all the fans have seen was a changing of directors among them Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Justin Lin and Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. But fans of what could be the next big franchise need not wait any longer because the outfit is now on the lookout for new writers who could bring in new ideas for the new Highlander movie.

Slashfilm said David Leitch, who worked with Stahelski in the John Wick first movie, could also be part of the Highlander reboot although that remains unconfirmed. The two created the stunt company 87eleven. The producers of this reboot are Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis. The long wait may have been agonizing for fans of the fantasy film but this could have its benefits as the Highlander reboot may just be one of the most-awaited films at this time.

"I've been a huge fan of the original property since I saw it in high school," Stahelski told Hollywood Reporter. "Such great themes of immortality, love, and identity are all wrapped up in such colorful mythology. I can't think of a better property that gives the opportunity to create interesting characters, mythic themes and action set pieces."

The Highlander movie which was shown in 1986 had Sean Connery as Juan Sanchez Villalobos Ramirez, Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod the swordsman and Clancy Brown as Kurgan the barbarian. The three played the lead role as immortals who could become powerful as they hunt one another. The film paved the way for three television series and four movie sequels.

Variety said, "there can be only one" for the Highlander and this time that only one could be Stahelski, best known as a stuntman who worked on popular films like Iron Man 2, Wolverine and The Hunger Games. As a director, he has worked on films like Escape Plan, Deadpool 2 and Captain America: Civil War.
