‘Silence’ Movie News: Martin Scorsese Tackles Jesuit Life in Feudal Japan in the Film Adaptation; Oscar Contender Will Open on December 23

The first trailer for Martin Scorsese's "Silence," the Movie, has just been released and movie fanatics are calling this decades-in-the-making movie, "menacing." The movie stars Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson, and more.

"Silence," the Movie, is already a contender for the Oscars, according to Vanity Fair. The film is set in 17th century Japan and revolves on the lives of Portuguese Jesuit missionaries. Driver and Garfield travel to Japan to search for the missing Father Cristóvão Ferreira, who is played by Liam Neeson. He is said to have been tortured and had to renounce his faith.

"Silence," the Movie, also reportedly took decades to plan. Martin Scorsese was said to have had his eye on this piece for a long time. "Silence," the Movie, was originally a novel written by Shusaku Endo. It was published in Japan in 1966. Martin Scorsese's version has been changed and revised so many times until he was at last happy with the outcome.

Rolling Stone revealed that the cast of "Silence," the Movie, had to undergo intense mental and emotional training before the shoot. They were said to have gone on actual silent retreats to internalize their roles. Driver and Garfield went to St. Beuno's, a Jesuit House located in Wales, for weeks on end.

Additionally, Driver had to lose about 50 pounds to portray his role in "Silence," the Movie. The initial trailer was ominous, dark, and violent. Of course, that is to be expected for a period piece. Scorsese's film is about Christian persecution and torture while in a foreign land. It is expected to be heart-wrenching and will take viewer on a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

"Silence," the Movie, also details how "mizuharitsuke" is done. This is a form of Japanese torture. It is also called the "water crucifixion." "Silence," the Movie, will be released on December 23 in the US.
