Son Torches Gifted Ferrari Because He Wanted An Upgrade

A son torched a Ferrari, which was a gift from his father, because he wanted an upgrade.

As first reported by 20 minutes, the Swiss billionaire father reportedly gave his son a Ferrari 458 Italia, which the son burned to a crisp in the hopes of getting an upgrade from the insurance money.

According to the Business Insider, apart from the Ferrari, the 20-year-old "spoiled brat" also owns a collection of 14 cars (including a Lamborghini), which amount to around $30 million in total. He also received a monthly allowance of $5,000 to $10,000.

As reported, the son went to the dealership in March of 2014 to get his car valued so that he could trade it for a better model, probably the supercar 458 Speciale. However, the son was unable to meet the quoted price for the said model, which was at $193,500.

The dealer, however, suggested that he destroy his Ferrari to get insurance money, which was presumably higher than the quoted value given to him. He then reportedly hired three accomplices to complete the deed in a quiet area outside the border, into Germany. The son and one accomplice went to a massage parlor while the other two burned the car in hopes of succeeding. However, security cameras and telephone recordings led to them being caught and arrested.

Court proceedings took place in Augsburg, Germany, near the place where the Ferrari was torched. The 20-year-old was given 22 months of probation and a fine of $33,000. The accomplices each received probations of between 14 and 16 months.

According to Motor Authority, the 458 Italia sports 562 horsepower from the 4.5-liter V-8 engine. And though the engine is a screamer, it also delivers at least 80 percent of the rated 400-pound-feet of torque from 3,250 rpm.

The 458 Italia performs 0-60 mph acceleration in less than 3.4 seconds; 202 mph top speed; 12 mpg city and 18 mpg highway.

On the other hand, the 458 Speciale's output has been raised to 597 horsepower at a screaming 9,000 rpm and 398-pound-feet of torque delivered at 6,000 rpm.

Also, the 458 Speciale delivers a 0-62 mph acceleration in 3.0 seconds flat and 0-124 mph in just 9.1 seconds.

This simply shows that the 458 Speciale's engine is the most powerful naturally aspirated V-8 ever launched in a Ferrari road car.

For sure, the 20-year-old wanted the upgrade badly. The thing is; he lacked the courage to tell his father that he no longer liked his Ferrari gift.
