Here’s Once Dirty Tactic That Might Sneak Up On Your Homeschooling Rights

Dallas State Senator Don Huffines hosted an Education Town Hall Meeting to promote a legislation which supposedly supports homeschooling in Texas through School Choice and Education Savings Account (ESAs). Homeschooling advocates, however, suspect that the legislation is merely a malicious government scheme to create a backdoor towards homeschool rights infringement.

Texas Home Educators Advisory Board member and a second generation homeschooler Nicki Truesdell shares her insights to uncover the supposed government attack against homeschool freedom. According to Truesdell, Texas homeschoolers will not benefit from the government-run Education Savings Accounts and School Choice legislations.

The ESAs are presented as government funds set aside for homeschooling. Truesdell says this is a misleading advertisement since the said fund is only granted to current Public School enrollees.

Truesdell's statement is in contrary to what the Texas Homeschool Coalition (THSC) has to say. The THSC stress that the ESA is designed to entice people who have never thought of homeschooling before. The goal is to enlighten parents on the flexibility, freedom and philosophical choice of teaching children at home.

The homeschool advocate disagrees with the THSC, saying that the coalition's vision is to protect hypothetical homeschoolers of the future at the expense of the current homeschooling advocates. Don't Comply says ESAs are nothing but perfectly calculated government schemes which use dollars as bait.

Parents, lured by the price at stake, shall be convinced to endure required state tests. Advocates speculate that the unreasonable tests are programmed to produce scores below required passing marks. These fabricated results will then be used to justify government intervention and ultimately, the manipulation of homeschooling.

Homeschooling advocates recall a famous FA Hayek statement, which says almost all the time, liberty is destroyed using promises that offer an alternative false freedom. They strongly believe that the new legislation will take away the right to decide on what is best for the children.
