Pregnant and Parenting In High School

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) said that why the modern teenagers would complicate their life by adding a baby when they already have an even more complicated life before. One of the counselors from Jefferson High School said that she already witnessed the impact of having a child and finishing high school.

Lafayette uttered that because of the baby, it would be very hard for them to go to school since they often get only four hours of sleep each night. To make it even more complicated, they would have a test the next day according to NEWS 18.

Miraculously, teens found out that there was a program called "Teen Parent Initiative" that might help these teens balance it all.
Lafayette said that there weren't any other programs like this in the state. What this program could do to give these children the opportunity to have the same amount of credits the other students are learning and at the same time to help them keep track of their education would be a great opportunity for them. It will be excellent if every school have this kind of program as cited on NASN.
What does this program do? It gives teenager moms to have a chance to drop their children off at a daycare resulting to peace of mind whenever they go to school.
Teen Parent Initiative coordinator Miranda Hutcheson said that developing themselves is an important aspect, so we should give teenagers the opportunity to develop and grow.
Not only this program could get their children access to child care, but their children would also take part of the curriculum in the lab at Durgan, said Hutcheson.
Hutcheson gave the example of them holding the infant in class, whenever it would be a child development class then they might be there to experience or to ask questions of how to place the baby in their arms or what is the appropriate way of doing things and any applicable lessons for them.
However, those were not just the things they would learn.
Birth control would take part in the curriculum that these students would study. They would also be educated on the entire process of pregnancy and what happens next as the child would develop as well.
The way students think and the way they comprehend to their environment is also a benefit from this program; it helps them to have an insight on what's available to them outside the classroom.
Not only they would educate the child, but also the parents as well, being able to access the resources that are given to them within their community.
This program would not only give them intellectual benefits, but it would also become a chance in which they could create a bond of friendship between all other girls. Most of them became splendid friends as they take the roads together, they share the same celebration of the joy that happens in motherhood. Most of all they could talk about the struggles they encounter.
These teens would serve as the examples of the responsibility for their actions in becoming a mother at their very young age.
The girls at the program would see the struggles that teenage moms are going through, so that would also be a kind of a lesson for them.
