Latest Toyota News: New Technology Developed For Improving Battery Life

In the latest Toyota news, a major advancement has been made by Toyota Motor Corp. regarding batteries for electric vehicles. The development of a new way of viewing particles inside the battery will now improve the battery life up to 15 percent.

A complex method of tracking the lithium ions in batteries like the ones used in smartphones and laptops was explained by Hisao Yamashige, one of Toyota's top engineers. The movement of the ions is very difficult to detect and is the key element in knowing the power and overall efficiency of a battery as reported in Top Tech News.

Since charging stations for Toyota vehicles are not as common as gas stations, increasing the cruise range of electric vehicles is now the main goal of Toyota engineers. Li-ion batteries use an organic electrolyte and a metal oxide in the cathode which is used in most electric vehicles available in the market today as stated in the latest Toyota news.

According to Toyota Inc, the electric current flow in batteries is the result of lithium ions that move from the cathode to the anode when charging and the reverse happens when it's discharging. This behavior shows that Li-ions have an important role when the battery is charging and discharging.

In the latest Toyota news, it's been reported that earlier models of Toyota EVs have been cancelled due to poor sales and the production of the company's electric iQ subcompact has also been discontinued. The Toyota Prius hybrid is the only electric vehicle being produced by the Japanese company as stated in a report by ABC News.

Most of the well-known car makers in the world are now producing electric vehicles for the mass market. Nissan Motor Co. which is another Japanese car company has sold half of the EVs in most continents with their Nissan-Renault alliance.

A department manager from Toyota said that a newly improved electric vehicle is now being developed for commercial purposes and it will be ready in the next several years. The company's new technology will also allow Toyota Inc. to improve their battery designs and make way for testing new car materials.
