NBA Latest News: Dallas Mavericks Are Not Tanking; Mark Cuban Still Hopeful To Have High Pick In The Next Draft!

Dirk Nowitzki has been the cornerstone of the Dallas Mavericks for almost two decades and the Mavs goes wherever Dirk goes. In the most unfortunate event, Dirk was hurt during training camp this 2016-2017 NBA season and the Dallas Mavericks suffered a lot losing eight straight games without Nowitzki in their lineup.

Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle addressed that Dirk Nowitzki is doing well in his recovery. The team is not rushing him to be back on the court to help the Mavs that desperately needs a win, in a report by Star-Telegram.

Coach Carlisle stated that Nowitzki is almost ready to return from his Achilles injury he suffered during the training camp. He is very hopeful for their aging franchise player to change things immediately when he steps on the court.

The Dallas team management is weary and will not attempt to play Dirk if he is not fully healthy. The Mavs are hopeful that Dirk can return and play this December.

With a series of injuries on their key players, it was nothing but downhill for the Dallas Mavericks this season. The Mavs currently holds the worst record in the NBA with 3-13 but it is too early to predict that the team will remain at the bottom til the end of the season especially if and when the Dallas Mavericks gets healthy.

Team owner Mark Cuban stated that he thinks the Mavs don't need to start tanking this season to have a chance for a high pick in the next draft, according to CBS Sports. Cuban is known for being arrogant and it is not surprising to hear his comments about his team's status.

Mark Cuban believes the Mavs can still turn things around and push for a playoff spot when key players return from their injuries. He also added that there are no high-profile prospects in the coming draft and there is no reason to tank to get a high pick.

Dirk Nowitzki is already 38 years old and is no longer the superstar player that dominated the NBA but can still be effective and an efficient player for the Dallas Mavericks. Cuban surrounded Dirk with solid players to lessen the workload but still be competitive in the western conference playoff race.

The 2016-2017 NBA season is still young and the Mavs are only 5.5 games behind the 8th playoff spot despite having the lowest record in the standings. Dallas can still make a big run to pile up wins when their key players return from injuries.
