Kerry Washington Isn't Trying To Get Her Pre-Baby Body 'Back', Actress Focused On 'Being The Best Version Of Myself'

First-time mom, Kerry Washington, looks stunning on the September issue of Self, where she revealed her thoughts about her figure after giving birth.

While new moms rejoice when they hear friends or relatives praise them that they are back on their pre-baby figure, Washington, 38, takes the compliment as an offense. The "Scandal" star was not pleased when her manager used the phrase after she had her baby, according to HollywoodLife.

"She meant it as a total compliment, but we had this great conversation where I was like, 'You know what? I try really hard not to use that language, because it's not about going backward in life," the "Project Runway" guest judge said.

"I've been really focused on not being 'back' to anything, but being the best version of myself right now," she continued. "My body is the site of a miracle now. I don't want to be pre-miracle."

Kerry gave birth to her daughter, Isabelle Amarachi, in April 2014. She stressed that workout is an important part of her routine. According to Self, Washington likes to do her work out in the morning because she wants to be home and be with her husband and daughte early.

Washington believes that she needs to take care of herself so she can live the life she wants. While working out is an important part of her routine, she also considers giving herself a break. "It's important to have rest days. But in the long run, if I don't work out for, like, three days, I feel worse, not better," she said.

The report suggests that Washington and the other "Scandal" actresses do regular hikes around Los Angeles. However, pilates is the "Confirmation" star's anchor when it comes to working out.

For those wondering why, the actress explained, "There are a lot of forms of exercise where you have to leave yourself out of the room while you force yourself to do this thing."

However, there is more to that as she continued to simplify her choice of exercise, "With pilates, I get to bring my true self. I cry, I laugh. I get to go: Where is my body today? What do I need today? How can I take care of myself and push myself past my comfort zone? How can I be both loving and challenging?"

Kerry plays the lead role of ABC's TV series, "Scandal," as Olivia Pope. The actress reveals that she bears Olivia's ability to handle any situation and she is aware of her capacity. However, while they share the same work ethics, they do not share the same vice.
