Back To School 2015: What Are The Top Colleges For 2016?

Getting into college is something that every young student wants. But it's not enough to just get there, one has to know the best schools and work their way into getting admitted.

For that, here is a list of the best colleges, per US News. The schoolds were ranked and divided according to categories following the Carnegie Classification, which is used extensively by higher education researchers. It was the basis for this ranking.

NATIONAL UNIVERSITIES

Colleges in the National Universities category offer a full range of undergraduate majors plus master's and Ph.D. programs.

1) Princeton University 

A private institution located in Princeton, N.J.

2) Harvard University

A private institution in Cambridge, Mass., just outside of Boston.

3) Yale University

Located in New Haven, Conn., Yale offers a small college life with the resources of a major research institution.

4) Columbia University

An Ivy League private school that guarantees students housing for all four years on campus in Manhattan's Morningside Heights neighborhood in New York City.

NATIONAL LIBERAL ARTS COLLEGES

The National Liberal Arts colleges emphasize on undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in the liberal arts fields of study.

1) Williams College

A private institution in Williamstown, Mass.

2) Amherst College

A private institution in Amherst, Mass.

3) Swarthmore College

Located just about 10 miles outside Philadelphia, Pa.

4) Wellesley College

A private college for women located about 10 miles from Boston, in Wellesley, Mass.

REGIONAL UNIVERSITIES

Regional Universities offer a full range of undergraduate programs and some master's programs but just a few doctoral programs.
