Nintendo Switch Update: Report Says Fans May Get to Play GameCube Games Via Virtual Console; See Game Lineup Here!

Nintendo may add digital versions of older titles to its newest gaming console. Although Nintendo Switch's additional GameCube game lineup is not yet officially confirmed, three games are said to have already been tested.

As the release date for Nintendo Switch console on March 2017 is getting nearer, more rumors about its features will continue to rise until its official launch. According to Eurogamer, the newest addition to Nintendo Switch feature is the inclusion of GameCube games such as Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion and Super Mario Bros. Melee.

It is said that the Nintendo European Research and Development (NERD), the same team responsible for developing the NES Mini, will be handling the compatibility works. The three titles were said to have been tested and were completely compatible and ready for Switch. Another game that is said to be in the testing stage is the GameCube version of Animal Crossing.

Because of NES Mini's Christmas sell out and popularity over its quality performance, it is likely that NERD may be able to develop the same kind of GameCube emulator in the Virtual Console for Switch. Nintendo's Virtual Console or VC is a section in the online shopping services for Wii, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS portable gaming consoles that allows fans to purchase and download older games to be played on newer consoles. However, Nintendo Switch may be the first time that fans will be able to play GameCube games.

There is a caveat to the rumored feature for other Nintendo consoles besides Switch though. Fans may need to add an upgrade fee to transfer previous purchases from the Virtual Console to Switch. This may still be a good news since an upgrade fee is a cheaper alternative than buying a game for the whole price.

All these speculations may have some basis as previous rumors have turned out to be true. The press conference and game tests for Nintendo Switch next month may confirm all the speculations about the console's features.
