Remake of the male version starred Channing Tatum (Jenko), Jonah Hill (Schmidt) and Ice Cube (Captain Dickson).

Deadline reports that Rodney Rothman is onboard for the "21 Jump Street" spinoff, not just as a writer. The "Grudge Match" scribe also signed up as director for the spinoff. This will be the first time for Rodney Rothman to put on the director's hat.

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill posed as high school students in "21 Jump Street" and as college students in its sequel. The media outlet qualifies that involvement by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in the spinoff is currently uncertain.

At best, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill could drop in on the "21 Jump Street" spinoff in cameo roles. Besides the spinoff project, Rodney Rothman is also working with Sony on "MIB 23" where Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will be in a mash-up with "Men In Black." Just as with the "21 Jump Street" spinoff, Rodney Rothman will not only write but may also direct.

Besides casting details, release date targets are yet to be made known about the untitled "21 Jump Street" spinoff. One wonders of Sony will once again call on the comedic powers of Melissa McCarthy and company, who were cast in the all-female reboot of "Ghostbusters." Which female stars would you be happy to see playing cops in this new spinoff?
