Meanwhile, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, author Blake Crouch teased that if "Wayward Pines" will return for season 3, the characters of season 2 will return as well, plus some new characters too. Crouch also explained that they intended each season to be an event series, so all episodes have been wrapped up and the new season will begin a new event.

Crouch further mentioned that the direction of the storyline for "Wayward Pines" has always been focused on the final hours of man. The author admitted that they kept coming back to exploring the arc of how a man faces his own extinction. What could possibly transpire in those final hours? How resilient a man could be? Will he be afraid or brave to face his final moment? These are the things that they like to play in for the show.
