NCIS Season 13 Spoilers: Plot Includes Gibbs Vs DiNozzio Tension, Gibbs Injured & Tony Takes Over [Rumors]

NCIS Season 13 will see quite a palpable tension in the navy team especially between Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and Anthony "Tony" DiNozzio (Michael Weatherly). In the finale episode of NCIS Season 12, fans and followers of the crime drama series were left with a cliffhanger - that is, viewers were caught holding their breath as Gibbs got fatally wounded in a terrorist-related mission in Afghanistan. No further details were offered with regard the NCIS leader's survival but the teaser clips and spoilers revealed by the producers themselves resolved the issue of Gibbs' survival.

While everyone can now breathe a collective sigh of relief, it appears that the NCIS team still have issues to deal with. Since Gibbs was shot, the NCIS commander has been reportedly moody and testy as of late which would then put the entire investigative team in tenterhooks in terms of their boss' mood. To add to the tension, it looks like DiNozzio will be at his most annoying version this season.

Speaking with TV Fanatic, NCIS executive producer Gary Glasberg disclosed details regarding the change in Gibbs. He said, "We ended with a scenario where he was getting shot and really injured." Glasberg is referring to the final episode of NCIS Season 12 where Gibbs got shot by a child he befriends while on a mission in Afghanistan. The attack, which was designed to show the chaos and violence brought about by the war, rattled the NCIS leader and forced him to question the fate of humanity in a world that pushes women and children to become predators themselves.

"We pick up right where we left off and dealing with an injury like that is significant for anyone. And recovering from it and rehabilitating from it and there's psychological trauma and physical trauma that goes along with that," said Glasberg, further elaborating on the situation of Gibbs in NCIS Season 13. The producer added that viewers could expect to see Gibbs change both physically and emotionally in the TV series. Glasberg also revealed that the upcoming season will feature "really emotional stuff."

As for the relationship of DiNozzio and Gibbs, the executive producer shared that the shift in the dynamic within the NCIS group will bring about tension between the two.

"That's one of the big character arcs that we're going to get into this season. Gibbs and Tony are really going to feel some tension between the two of them," shared Glasberg. He added, "Gibbs is putting tremendous pressure on Tony. Having survived this, Gibbs really wants to know if this is what Tony wants."
