5 New TV Shows The Whole Family Will Enjoy Watching

September on television kicks off with a batch of new series this week as Fall TV season is underway. With the advent of digital streaming sites, families have more options to binge-watch, but not every TV show is fit for families with younger kids due to their sensitive themes. Which new programs can families enjoy best together? Below are five top choices:

1.       "Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris," begins Sept. 15 on NBC

Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, who is a dad to twins, "Best Time Ever" will feature silly pranks and fun segments done live. "This is a show filled with variety," Harris said via NBC New York. "There's lots of music stuff, game and play elements, hidden camera stuff, pranking."

2.       "Life in Pieces," begins Sept. 21 on CBS

The family comedy stars Dianne Wiest, James Brolin, Colin Hanks and Betsy Brandt and is said to be a mashup of other family shows like "Modern Family" and "Parenthood," according to TV.com. "Life in Pieces" has stories told in four perspectives every episode, which offers something new to viewers.

3.       "The Muppets," begins Sept. 22 on ABC

"The Muppets" is a revival series that today's parents have come to enjoy when they were kids in the '80s or '70s. This new and updated version is said to be a "more adult" version, according to Entertainment Weekly (EW), but families will still be able to enjoy the new series. It will tackle "personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires; a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages," according to the official logline, via EW.

4.       "Supergirl," begins Oct. 26 on CBS

This season's highly-anticipated and most popular series is "Supergirl," featuring the story of Superman's younger cousin, Kara. Melissa Benoit plays the adorable lead. "Ours is not your dark, brooding superhero show," said executive producer Ali Adler, via L.A. Times.  "This is about coming together; this is about looking to the sky and feeling hopeful."

5.       "Uncle Buck," begins mid-season on ABC

"Uncle Buck" is another revival based on an '80s comedy movie starring John Candy. This time, the characters will feature a black family, headed by Mike Epps as Uncle Buck. "I may be wrong, but I do think there's a real knowledge out there of what Uncle Buck is, what that character and who John Candy was. The reality is Mike Epps' performance could not be more different and his world cannot be more different," said Paul Lee, ABC's head, during the summer TCA panel, according to Slashfilm.
