Meet Corduroy The New Holder Of The Oldest Living Cat World Record

Corduroy is crowned as the oldest cat living by the Guinness World records. He just turned 26 years old and that is about 121 in cat years, yet he still lives as a youngster -- jumping and enjoying his time outdoors.

Boredpanda reports that Reed Okura, Corduroy's owner adopted him from a shelter in Oregon when he was only seven years old in 1989. Reed said that Corduroy is in good health.

"I strongly believe the key to his longevity is the fact we did not declaw him and allowed him to go outside," Reed said.  "He was able to defend himself and exercise his body and mind by hunting. Corduroy still catches critters but it is not as good as he once was, thankfully."

"It is an honor to have Corduroy in our life, and honestly don't remember much of my life without him. He is a wonderful companion and I hope to give him a happy and healthy life for many more years."

Corduroy enjoys the attention and praises that he gets from other people. And he is patient with children.

"He is a wonderful companion and I hope to give him a happy and healthy life for many years," Reed concluded.

Guinness World Record states that the half Maine Coon cat held the record back in 2014. However, he lost the title over Tiffany Two that was 27 years of age then. The record is back now in Corduroy when Tiffany just died recently.

WebMD states that cats live longer than dogs. Older cats' appetite wane and they sleep more. Many cats still celebrate up to their 20th birthday but the lifespan of cats is 15 years. Some of them still age just like Corduroy.

When a cat reaches the age of 10 or older, they may be affected by some age-related medical issues. On the other hand, if you keep your cat slim, you can be sure that he will age healthier and live longer.
