"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 is rumored to be the show's series finale because of the continuous drop in ratings. Several of the show's cast members such as Kat Graham and Ian Somerhalder have also announced their departure from the series after the upcoming season.

Despite these rumors surrounding "TVD" Season 8, E! News reports that the CW has not yet cancelled the show. Mark Pedowitz told the publication that the network has not yet reached a decision with regards to the show's future on TV.

"No decisions have been made for one way or another whether or not this is the final season," said Pedowitz. "In my dreams it isn't."

There are no signs yet that "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will serve as the series finale. The publication notes that the show will continue to air on Fridays and will be paired with "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" in hopes of boosting the latter's ratings.

While it remains to be seen whether "TVD" will end after Season 8, Steroline fans will have something to look forward to. In a recent interview with writer Brian Young with TVGuide.com, it was revealed that there may be more moments between Stefan (Candice King) and Caroline (Paul Wesley) next season.

"We always try to find a little bit [of happiness]," said Young. "We give glimpses and moments of happiness, because that's sort of what life is, and then it's surrounded by tragedy, because that's what television is."
