NFL News: Did Former Broncos Quarterback Peyton Manning Use Human Growth Hormones (HGH)?

NFL finally settled the score on retired quarterback Peyton Manning and HGH allegations by Al Jazeera America. Peyton Manning, who won his final game with the Denver Broncos at the Super Bowl 50, was finally cleared by the NFL.

According to CNN, a documentary by Al Jazeera America called "The Dark Side" alleged Peyton Manning to be among professional athletes who have been using human growth hormones (HGH) to enhance performance. Peyton Manning denied the allegations which, for a while, placed a cloud of doubt on his lengthy NFL career.

The Al Jazeera America documentary cited insider source Charlie Sly in gathering evidence on the prevalence of HGH use in professional sports. The NFL quarterback allegedly received his HGH supply from Dr. Dale Guyer of Guyer Institute through packets delivered to his wife, Ashley Manning.

Charlie Sly had been a former employee at the Guyer Institute. Evidences gathered against Peyton Manning were supposed to have been captured from conversation segments and hidden cameras.

Interestingly, Charlie Sly eventually recanted. The supposed whistleblower declared materials aired by Al Jazeera America in connection with the NFL allegations to be fabricated.

ESPN reports that Peyton Manning submitted all medical records pertinent to the investigation by the NFL security and legal units. Both Peyton Manning and his wife Ashley reportedly cooperated in full with the NFL to uncover the truth.

NFL concluded its five-month investigation with the announcement that the league found no basis to the allegations against Peyton Manning. The NFL Players Association also released a statement on Peyton Manning.

"As a former player, Peyton Manning is free to do whatever he believes is in his best interest," the NFLPA stated. "The Union knows that he understands the rights of players under the Collective Bargaining Agreement and would never do anything to hurt or undermine active players in support of those rights."
