"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 is steeped in drama as much because of the continuing controversy between Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) and Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert, Katherine Pierce) as S8 being the end of The CW series. News suggest that Ian Somerhalder needs Nina Dobrev as much as Damon Salvatore needs Nina Dobrev to save him in "The Vampire Diaries."

Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev fans thought they had seen the last of the duo when "The Vampire Diaries" exited Elena Gilbert in a coma, leaving Damon Salvatore to brood his way into redemption. However, because executive Julie Plec developed a grand plan of reuniting Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore when the end of "The Vampire Diaries" rolls around, the buzz between Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev was rekindled.

  According to Celeb Dirty Laundry Ian Somerhalder may continue playing Damon Salvatore in "The Originals" after "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 closes The CW series. Similarly, the media outlet reports that Nina Dobrev could also join "The Originals" as Katherine Pierce rather than Elena Gilbert.

The media outlet points out that continuing to work with Nina Dobrev in "The Originals," after "The Vampire Diaries" closes shop, is not the ideal situation for Ian Somerhalder. However, Celeb Dirty Laundry proposes that Ian Somerhalder needs to continue working with Nina Dobrev in "The Originals" to remain employed or to avoid having to land bit parts.

Interestingly, Ian Somerhalder did not seem to display any such complex or apprehension when he was first quoted after S7 finale that Damon Salvatore was exiting "The Vampire Diaries" after Season 8 as Parent Herald reports. Still, Celeb Dirty Laundry is at least right in that Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev fans would want to see Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert or even Katherine Pierce reunite beyond "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 finale.
