The Truth About 4K, HDR Gaming Consoles, Here's What You Need To Know

With the Playstation 4 Pro making it's debut this coming November and the release of the Xbox One S coming later in 2017, gamers should know that these consoles aren't in the level of true high quality 4K resolution just yet.

Gamers around the world are getting pretty excited over the new line of consoles being released by Sony and Microsoft, the Playstation 4 Pro and the Xbox One S, respectively, but one thing that should be made known to anybody who's planning on getting the new generation units, is that both of the "upgraded" consoles aren't as revolutionary as they are cracked up to be.

According to CNET, these consoles need to get better before true 4K gaming can be achieved. Both the Playstation 4 Pro and the Xbox One S have boasted high definition resolution, and they have indeed made the improvement, but only slightly.

C|NET writer, Geoffrey Morrison, explains that the Xbox One S won't be able to give the full 4K resolution, but will only upconvert old Xbox Games, which means that the games, will indeed look better, but will not fit the 4K resolution standards. The Playstation 4 Pro, meanwhile, will be able to give the native 4K resolution, but most games won't be able to fit the standard, and will still be upconverted.

So what gamers are getting when they buy the new consoles, won't really be true ultra high definition 4K resolution, but will instead get a slightly better output, even with an ultra HD television set. According to PC Gamer, the Playstation 4 Pro won't be able to provide the native 4K gaming for all of their games, despite it's massive hardware, at least not yet.

While this will seem underwhelming for gamers now, the new consoles are indeed a stepping stone for future generation consoles in the years to come.
