‘Westworld’ Season 1 Premiere Recap: Reveries Glitches Discovered, Robots To Plot Revenge?

"Westworld" opened with a naked Dolores Abernathy portrayed by Evan Rachel Wood in a room before the scene switched to a morning in a Wild West ranch. Then, Dolores' lover Teddy Flood, portrayed by James Marsden, arrived only to be killed along with Dolores' family as the story progressed. The killings kept on repeating and here is why.

Dolores and Teddy are hosts in an unusual theme park called "Westworld." There other hosts, including Dolores' father, Peter, and all of them are robots that follow a story in their own world. Human guests, however, will arrive at a certain point to alter how the story goes as they wish for $40,000 per visit, EW reported.

At the beginning, "Westworld" saw Dolores so delighted to be back with Teddy. However, as she came home that night, she found her father's dead body. Teddy arrived and killed the outlaws but another man portrayed by Ed Harris came to kill Teddy.

Teddy initially tried to kill the man by pointing the gun on his head but Teddy cannot pull the trigger. The man then shot Teddy and dragged Dolores to have his way with the woman. The man is revealed to be a veteran in "Westworld," a human guest, so he knows that hosts are forbidden to shoot on the head and that he cannot be killed.

Then, "Westworld" viewers are pulled back to the present time where Jeffrey Wright was seen as Westworld's lead programmer Bernard along with his assistant Elsie Huges, a character played by Shannon Woodward. Both of them noticed a glitch in their robots' Reveries, a system upgrade similar to computer memories stored in a hard drive which cannot be accessed.

Reveries were added by Westworld founder Dr. Ford, portrayed by Anthony Hopkins, to allow robots to have more realistic gestures based on their old "Westworld" memories stored as drafts in their system. They should not, however, remember what was done to them as they were designed to reset. But this is not the case anymore.

"Westworld" hosts, including Dolores' father displayed glitches causing him to be surprised in seeing a photo from a human guest that depicts a modern environment. This should not have happened as robots were designed to ignore such information that may disrupt their reality. So, it caught the attention of the team behind "Westworld" and they started examining the robots.

The "Westworld" team investigated Peter but surprisingly, Peter asked who his creator is. When Dr. Ford admitted that he is his creator, Peter grabbed him and threatened that he will have revenge on all of them. Before the show ended, Dolores was being interviewed where she revealed that her father told him, "These violent delights have violent ends," USA Today reported.
