Playstation VR Review: A Step Forward for Mainstream Virtual Reality

The PlayStation VR was recently released and critics were amazed at how good the virtual reality headset from Sony is, given the price. The device is certainly one step forward in bringing virtual reality into the mainstream world.

Virtual reality was once just a novelty idea, something that would be cool to have as part of one's gaming set-up, but was never really considered as a possibility to have in every household. Now, thanks to the PlayStation VR, we are that much closer to having virtual reality as the gaming norm.

What concerns most people in owning or buying a virtual reality set is the heavy price tag that comes along with it, like the initial price of the Oculus Rift, which was pretty steep but was trimmed down to around $600, and the HTC Vive, which is currently sold at $799. Not to mention that you also need a pretty powerful computer just to run it.

Thankfully, the PlayStation VR won't burn as big of a hole in your pockets compared to the other two virtual reality gaming headsets, as it sits at a very reasonable $499, packaged with the two PlayStation Move controllers, camera, and the PPlayStationVR Worlds game, which is filled with plenty of great content.

The decent cost and the well-made, well-delivered PlayStation VR is what is needed to bring virtual reality into everyday gaming. Polygon says of the virtual reality device that its ridiculous how good and comfortable the PlayStation VR is, as well as having a great library of games to choose from. Overall, Polygon gives the Sony virtual reality headset an 8.5/10 score.

The Verge also says that the PlayStation VR fits into a popular and user-friendly system, which makes it less intimidating than the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive, while adding that the PlayStation Move controllers were the only minor setback.

Overall, the PlayStation VR is what is gonna bring virtual realty into pop culture, due to it being easily available and has a number of decent games to offer. In the future, we could perhaps see some of the great PlayStation exclusives such as "God of War" and "The Last of Us" in virtual reality.
