Technology Update & News: Mirai Malware Makes Internet Attacks Easier! Should This Be A Cause For Alarm?

Internet attacks as what happened recently to Dyn is easier to be replicated. The Mirai Malware makes internet attacks easier.

According to ABC News, Mirai Malware makes such attack to Twitter and Netflix rather easy and won't even require a lot of money to cause such mayhem. Researchers say that Mirai Malware exploits the vulnerabilities and weaknesses of different devices that are connected to the internet such as web cameras. Those devices are then used to attack a major internet firm resulting to outages. This is possible because of the Mirai Malware.

It is known that Dyn's servers were hit with Mirai Malware or a similar type. Such attack works by overwhelming targeted computers with junk traffic which makes it impossible for legitimate traffic to get through. This attack caused by Mirai Malware took few hours before having it resolved.

Mirai Malware makes it easy for a potential internet attacker to scan the internet for devices to take over and turn to "botnets" for launching coordinated attacks. Since botnets have already been used for about a decade, it has been used by organized crime groups whose goal is to target pornography and gambling sites. This work side by side with Mirai Malware.

Speculations on who is responsible for such an attack is still unknown. It is believed that it is a state-sponsored attack which used Mirai Malware. Different hacker groups have claimed responsibility for the attack on Twitter but their claims still need further verification.

To add to the report, TopTech News said that there may be more attacks to be expected the one that happened to Dyn Inc. Hacker groups who are experts in Mirai Malware have threatened to execute the same attacks to the Russian Government and its major corporations to the United States upcoming Presidential Elections.

It is believed that more attacks will happen because of the use of Mirai Malware. Such attacks are not even considered sophisticated. The Department of Homeland Security that it has been working double time on security practices to avert the further effects of Mirai Malware.
