'Homeland' Season 6 Spoilers, News & Updates: Elizabeth Keane Won't Survive The Season As President-Elect?

When "Homeland" Season 6 begins in January 2017, a new female president-elect will be the leader of the free world on the TV show. Elizabeth Keane, who will be played by actress Elizabeth Marvel, will be in the midst of the transition of power between two governments in the Showtime political drama. But will the character survive the season?

Showtime announced the Elizabeth Keane storyline on "Homeland" Season 6 last July. The president-elect is characterized as a former New York senator, who is "charming and lively" and a "natural politician," Deadline reports.

The news site also confirms that "Homeland" Season 6's timeline is going to take place between Elizabeth Keane winning the November election and her inauguration on January. Speculations are that her character might not even survive in the new season, triggering another terrorist hunt in "Homeland."

Elizabeth Marvel was recently seen filming one of her scenes as President-elect Elizabeth Keane in the New York location for "Homeland" Season 6, as What the Homeland reports. Photos on social media also reveal that "Homeland" filmed several bombed cars, suggesting that there has been massive chaos.

Filming for "Homeland" Season 6 started in late August and it's set to kick off the new season on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017. Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is no longer working for the CIA when the show returns, as she heads a non-profit organization dealing with Muslim affairs.

Being based in New York, however, her character is likely to have an encounter with the incoming president in "Homeland" Season 6. After all, her mentor Saul (Mandy Patinkin) will try to convince her to return to active duty with the CIA.

"[Saul] is in a prayerful state that he will reconnect with his child and bring her back into a world where she is destined to be a profound giver and caretaker to humanity," Patinkin said of his character, Variety reports. Check back to this site for more on "Homeland" Season 6.
