'Narcos' Season 3 Air Date, Spoilers & News: How Wagner Moura's Pablo Escobar Could Return; Boyd Holbrook's Casting Status

Although "Narcos" Season 3 is shifting its story's focus on the Cali Cartel, it could still feature Pablo Escobar when the show returns on Netflix in 2017. After successfully dramatizing the rise and fall of the famous drug kingpin in its first two seasons, "Narcos" might still present scenes with actor Wagner Moura, who has been acclaimed for the iconic role.

There's a lot that have not yet been told about Pablo Escobar's feud with the Cali Cartel in "Narcos" and speculations are that this will be expounded in the early episodes of the third season. Fans believe that flashback scenes featuring Wagner Moura as Pablo Escobar could be used in "Narcos" Season 3, before fully shifting focus on the Cali Cartel. After all, many viewers regard the show's strength lies in Wagner Moura's Pablo Escobar.

When Netflix confirmed "Narcos" for a third and fourth season in September, the show's producer Eric Newman hinted that they want previous cast members to still be part of the upcoming season. "We're working on that now and as many of them as dramatically makes sense is the rule that we live by," Eric Newman told The Hollywood Reporter.

But Newman also hinted that there will be no strong and central personality like Pablo Escobar in "Narcos" Season 3. Instead, the upcoming season will shift to telling the story of the cocaine business, not a drug lord's life. "We are going to look deeper into the systemic effects within Colombia of cocaine and corruption."

Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal as Javier Pena has been confirmed to return in "Narcos" Season 3. The status of his TV sidekick, Agents Steve Murphy, who was played by Boyd Holbrook, is still unconfirmed. The actor has been taking on big movie projects since his stint on "Narcos," such as the "Predator" reboot. Screen Crush reports that production for this movie will begin in February 2017, which could mean he won't be able to work on the Netflix series.
