American Music Awards 2016: Drake Up For 13 Nominations; Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez Fight For Artist Of The Year

Drake is expected to shatter records during the American Music Awards 2016 as the "Hotline Bling" rapper is up for 13 nominations this year. As for Justin Bieber, he's facing off with former girlfriend Selena Gomez for the coveted Artist of the Year award.

With 13 nominations, Drake has beaten Michael Jackson's previous record of 11 nominations in the AMAs, E! News reports. The rapper is on a career high and is reportedly aiming to be one of the most consistent artists of his generation.

Speaking new success, Darke recently threw a birthday bash where Taylor Swift was famously in attendance. Naturally, rumors have surfaced that there is romance brewing between the two young musicians. As previously reported, the Drake is even wooing the Swift with expensive gifts for her pet cats.

Meanwhile, the American Music Awards 2016 shortlist for the Artist of the Year has been revealed. These include Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, and Carrie Underwood, Billboard reports.

Aside from the recognition, the Artist of the Year will also get a SiriusXM channel to run his or her brand up to 2017. Fans can vote for their favorite artists until Nov. 17.

Fans are also eager to know whether or not Selena Gomez will be making a comeback at the AMAs this year. Rumors have been surfacing that the "Kill Em with Kindness" singer is set to perform on stage on one condition: former boyfriend Justin Bieber should not be in attendance.

Bieber's camp has previously said that the artist will be on tour during the AMAs 2016, but it's still something fans will have to wait and see.

Ariana Grande is also set to perform during the awards show. Fans can also expect performances from Shawn Mendes, Nicki Minaj, John Legend and many more, People reports.

"American Music Awards" 2016 will air live on Nov. 20, 8 p.m. on ABC.
