'The Crown' Updates & Spoilers: Netflix Announces Season 2 Premiere; To Include Princess Diana?

Netflix just announced the premiere date for "The Crown" Season 2, much to the delight of its fans. Will the new season feature the life of Princess Diana? We have exciting details on the upcoming season's possible plot, cast, and air date.

"The Crown" Season 2 will still have Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II and Matt Smith as Prince Philip. However, it is reported that at least two main characters will be replaced in Seasons 3 and 4. For timeline continuity, older actors will then replace them for Season 5 and 6.

"The Crown" Season 2 is also reported to be Netflix's most expensive series to date. It has an estimated production cost of $100 million. The budget is already evident in the upcoming season's  extravagant trailer.

The entire Season 1 focused on the eight years of Queen Elizabeth II's rise to the British throne. Now, many fans are eagerly expecting for the period drama to give them a glimpse of Princess Diana in Season 2.

Diana, known to the British as the People's Princess, is an important part in Queen Elizabeth II's life. As a young bride to Prince Charles and then mother to Princes William and Harry, Diana has definitely endeared herself to the masses. Will "The Crown" include her in Season 2?

There is indeed a possibility that "The Crown" fans will see Princess Di. Peter Morgan, writer and creator of the show, has already plotted all the six seasons of the drama series, Time reports. Also, the show's production team is said to be discussing the possibility. They acknowledge that there's plenty of material about Princess Diana and her relationship with Queen Elizabeth, so exploring that storyline would be great.

In an interview with Digital Spy, "The Crown" producer Andrew Eaton mentioned that fans would really enjoy Season 2 as they've prepared a lot of "great stuff" for this season. He added that the show will mostly focus on British politics and even feature The Beatles.
