New ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Revealed: An Open World Game Overhaul?

The development of a new "Assassin's Creed" game was finally confirmed. Ubisoft is said to change some of the game's elements in the next installment.

According to an article in Gamingbolt, the new "Assassin's Creed" will become the first game that will divert from Ubisoft's concept of an open world game, "Ubisoft would traditionally make open world games where they had a specific pre-laid narrative/cinematic experience in mind that the player would then go through." Ubisoft's traditional open world scenario can be observed in" Assassin's Creed 2" wherein the player is sent through a series of hub cities, hit the same plot points and set piece as everyone else and the options will not matter since the experience is going to be the same.

The new "Assassin's Creed" title will focus on the player's story and the gameplay will depend entirely on how the player wants to play it. Open world games like the recently launched "Watch dogs 2" would be a great example to what Ubisoft wants to accomplish.

"Assassin's Creed" has been one of Ubisoft's longest running series. When the game was released on Nov. 13 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, it became an instant classic. "Assassin's Creed" received mostly positive reviews from video game critics. Although some critics excoriate the game's redundancy in its missions and the control scheme, the game broke new grounds for the originality of the story and presentation.

Sales of "Assassin's Creed" exceeded expectations when it comes to sales with 8 million copies sold. "Assassin's Creed" was only expected to sell 5 million copies from 2007 to 2008, according to Ubisoft. Assassin's Creed knocked "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" from the top spot with 67 percent were purchased for the Xbox 360 console.

A change is definitely what the "Assassin's Creed" game needs with nine titles already under its belt. The title is almost worn-out with a different version released annually. A fresh approach is definitely a must and Ubisoft might as well learn from Activision's "Call of Duty" series if the company wants to have more versions of "Assassin's Creed" in the future.
