Netflix 'A Series Of Unfortunate Events' Spoilers & News: Season 2 Scripts Done As Season 1 Debuts January 2017

The adaptation of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" on Netflix is going to debut Season 1 on Jan. 13, 2017 but it looks the next season is nearing production as well. The scripts for ASOUE Season 2 have apparently been finished and submitted to Netflix. It will cover 10 episodes.

"A Series of Unfortunate Events" writer Joshua Conkel confirmed on Twitter that they have turned over 10 scripts covering 10 episodes of ASOUE Season 2 to Netflix. The scribe announced in October that he's recently joined the writing team of ASOUE for the second season, according to his official site.

In September, Lisa Brown, the wife of Daniel Handler who created and wrote the book series the show is adapting, shared on her Instagram that the writing team has already started planning "A Series of Unfortunate Events" Season 2. At that time, ASOUE has just wrapped up production for the first season in Canada, as Parent Herald reported.

Daniel Handler wrote 13 books of the children's literature "A Series of Unfortunate Events," which were published from 1999 to 2006. The first four books -- "The Bad Beginning," "The Reptile Room," "The Wide Window" and "The Miserable Mill" -- are confirmed covered in the first season as seen in the most recent teaser, which you can watch below.

It's still unclear which books will be covered in "A Series of Unfortunate Events" Season 2. Yet basing on the first season's format of two books per episode, the next season should feature books 5 to 9 to cover 10 episodes --"The Austere Academy," "The Ersatz Elevator," "The Vile Village," "The Hostile Hospital" and "The Carnivorous Carnival." This leaves the third season to wrap up the Netflix adaptation with the last four books -- "The Slippery Slope," "The Grim Grotto," "The Penultimate Peril" and "The End."

Meanwhile, MPR News recommends reading up on the children's series this holiday, before the show's January 2017 premiere. Since it was published, "A Series of Unfortunate Events" have sold over 60 million copies worldwide, according to Publisher's Weekly.

The first three books of "A Series of Unfortunate Events" have also been adapted into a movie starring Jim Carrey as Count Olaf in 2004. Neil Patrick Harris plays the character in the Netflix series.
