See How Florida Poly Plans To Put Students' Idle Time Into Good Use With The $2 Million Wellness Center

Florida Polytechnic University's recent ground-breaking recently signifies the beginning of the $2 million wellness center project. This is designed to cater to students' demands  on something beneficial to do during idle times when not in class. The Lakeland campus will soon become the venue for fitness activities that include weight training, nutrition coaching, aquatics and rock climbing.

The construction will start on the phoenix-shaped center that measures 8,600 square feet. The mythological bird that turns to ashes at death, only to rise again  is the message of the school's mascot that is the basis of the design, Steven S. Warner, vice provost for student affairs, states their students exercises not just the mind but the body as well, as stated in the Florida Poly Technic website.

This wellness center will be the venue for health activities while also giving them more socialization space. A lap pool and another pool for competitive water sports are also in the plan. It has a covered rock-climbing wall, weight, locker, multipurpose rooms for fitness sessions, and dedicated space for students computerized technologies testing for physical training.

The new center is designed by Straughn Trout Architects, is not only for students' fitness needs but will also serve as a reminder to Florida Poly's dedication in preserving culture with continuous innovation to remain successful during the new age, implies Tim Hoeft, managing principal at Straughn Trout.

It will stand next to the soccer field, tennis and basketball courts. The construction of Applied Research Center and faculty laboratories will follow in 2019. A $5 million has been allocated by the State for the project. The university-inspired design will  be for bidding this week.

On top of that, the 84,000-square-foot achievement center is on the horizon for  2021, as well as the 35,000-square-foot building for administrators that is set for 2023. The administration headquarters remain at Polk State College's Lakeland campus until its completion, according to News Chief.
