‘The Winds Of Winter’ Updates: George RR Martin Teases ‘Dark Chapters’ On Sixth ‘ASOIAF’ Book; More Bittersweet Notes Than Happy Ones!

After heaps of speculations regarding the status of the highly anticipated "The Winds of Winter," George RR Martin finally spoke up, giving millions of "ASOIAF" fans the updates they have been so waiting for. The author shared some teasers about the upcoming "TWOW" and apparently, the novel seems to be coming out gloomy.

At the recently concluded Guadalajara International Book Fair, Martin confirmed during the Q&A that he is currently writing "TWOW" and he revealed his upcoming book contains "dark chapters." GRRM explained that as the title of his book denotes, it will be about winter, the season of death. Martin detailed that during this season, the world is filled with darkness, ice and cold. The scribe emphasized that the upcoming "TWOW" will not be about happy notes, so fans of the much-awaited novel should not expect a feel-good plot.

GRRM further revealed that some of the characters in "The Winds of Winter" will be featured in "very dark places." As the usual format for most storylines, fans get to see some adversities prior to reaching the victory side. In the same way, "TWOW" will go through the same process, where fans will see things will become worst first, before they get to see things or people in a better place.

In the same interview, GRRM also talked about the theme for the seventh book, "A Dream of Spring." According to Martin, he is not fond of happy endings so fans of "ASOIAF" should expect the series to conclude in the opposite direction. Martin teased that the seventh book will highlight more of a bittersweet plot than feel-good ones, Entertainment Weekly reported.

On a lighter note, GRRM ended the talk with a funny thought. Martin mentioned that there were times he would look back and ask himself if the series really needed to be about Seven Kingdoms, then he quipped, "The Five Kingdoms of Westeros, that would have been good, right?"
