Dish AirTV Streaming Device Gives You Access To Netflix, SlingTV, Plus Local Channels

Do you often wish you could easily switch from a Netflix movie to news programs on local television and then to a series on Sling TV? That's possible now, thanks to a new device that gathers different video streaming services in one place: Dish AirTV.

The Android TV-based television streaming device has 4K resolution and allows viewers to access any streaming service available on Google Play, PC Mag reports. AirTV's remote control has a dedicated button for Google's app store, as well as for Netflix and Sling TV, which both require separate subscriptions.

Dish's AirTV also has an over-the-air or OTA adapter that lets viewers get access to local channels being broadcast in any particular area. Using the same interface, you can choose from internet-based streaming services like Netflix and local channels.

According to Engadget, AirTV is attempting to brand itself as a "one-stop shop" for people's viewing needs. Besides Netflix and Sling TV content, AirTV users will also have access to content from Google Play Movies and Vudu, and be able to watch them in their highest resolution if a video is available in 4K.

Whether you can avail of all of AirTV's services, however, depends on the package you get. The $130 model has the OTA adapter that gives you access to local television. The cheaper one, which costs $100, works only with internet TV.

Although you can install the OTA antenna by yourself, you can also get the services of licensed technicians. Dish offers a service called AirTV Pro Install, in which technicians will set up your OTA either indoors for $100 or outdoors for $150.

Besides the shortcut buttons to SlingTV, Netflix, and other popular streaming services, AirTV's Bluetooth-enabled remote has voice control. It can also connect television and audio systems via infrared.

AirTV is now on sale and will be featured at the Consumer Electronics Show 2017 in Las Vegas. Television and the technologies related to it are expected to draw huge crowds at the annual electronics fair.
