He's only 12 but the boy who loves wearing makeup has become an inspiration. Reuben de Maid, who hails from Wales, recently made a splash on Ellen DeGeneres' show where he also talked about being bullied.
De Maid first drew public interest on his YouTube channel where he often shows off his singing prowess. His popularity grew when he started appearing on Steve Harvey's "Little Big Shots" and eventually, he also left a mark on DeGeneres' show, as per Monsters and Critics.
Observers predicted the 12-year-old will become a major star as a singer but there's also one other thing that sets De Maid apart from other kids his age. The boy admitted he loves makeup as much as he loves singing. De Maid revealed he started learning how to apply cosmetics when he was eight through video and blog tutorials and recalled he got bullied for it in school.
"I used to get hit, punched and kicked," he told DeGeneres during his visit to her show this week, as per Mic. "Then after two months, I tried to brush it off, but brushing it off just doesn't work," he said, adding he learned to be brave and stood up against his bullies.
Impressed with his courage, DeGeneres gifted the 12-year-old boy with his own makeup stash, a makeup station complete with proper lighting and a brand new laptop. The host also commended him for "not stopping being who you are," despite the public reaction.
On the "Little Big Shots" Facebook page, viewers expressed the boy reminded them of the late George Michael. "You go kid; reach out for your dreams. The kid who bullied you ignore them; do not let anyone define you," one commenter said. "If he's pursuing singing as s a career, best believe he's going places," chimed another.
