Abigail Breslin from "Scream Queens" opens up about being raped by her partner. The actress eventually breaks her silence about her experience for the first time in lieu of the Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

In her Instagram post, Breslin posted about consent. The 21-year-old actress pointed out that having sex with a partner is not an obligation while being in a relationship, dating or marriage does not mean consent, as featured on Buzzfeed.

"I knew my assailant #SexualAssaultAwarenessMonth #breakthesilence," Breslin captioned her post. It came after the actress shared an image showing the sexual assault statistics.

One commenter, however, pointed out that "only reported rapes are the ones that count." The "Maggie" star slammed the commenter as she shared her own sexual assault experience. Breslin also explained the reason why she remained silent and how fear and embarrassment hit her.

"I was diagnosed with PTSD a year and a half ago," Breslin shared, as featured in Refinery 21. "I have made a lot of progress since the event occurred, but I won't pretend it isn't something I struggle with. I still have flashbacks, I still get nightmares, I still jump when somebody touches me unexpectedly, even if it's my best friend tapping me on the shoulder."

Sexual assault is rampant among college campuses and it is not limited to a specific setting as it can happen to anyone, male or female. Rape victims find it difficult to speak up as they don't just go through embarrassment, but they struggle with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and other mental health problems as well due to the trauma they experienced.

Parents should be keen when it comes to consent and sexual assault discussions to their children. The statistics in 2016 revealed that 44 percent of rape victims are under 18, while 80 percent are under 30, as mentioned by Elite Daily.
