Dad and Autistic Son Create Inspiring Comic Book Series

Have you read the comic book series Jake Jetpulse? Surprisingly, it was created by a Dad and his son with Autism, and they released an activity playbook recently.

Jake Bradshaw was only three years old when he was diagnosed with Autism. It was his passion for arts that led his Dad, Led to art therapy and education.

Led shared that Jake was in the second grade when he learned about Jake's condition. During a parent-teacher conference about his ability to remember, he inquired about sight words and spelling. Dad Bradshaw said in an interview, "I was like, 'Well, could I have a list of the sight words the kids are learning?'"

Led Bradshaw used the list of sight words to make visual aids for Jake to learn from, and he drew pictures of a hero who looked like Jake acting out each word or action on each card.

Jake's Dad then started drawing himself as this character. It was all Jake wanted to talk about, according to the elder Bradshaw, who has been a comic book fan himself since he was a child.

"Jake was flying, Jake running real fast, so he learned the words 'run' and 'jump,'" Bradshaw explained.
