Dove is scheduled to undergo neurosurgery by the end of the month.

The Real Housewives Beverly initially thought that her daughter had the same condition as her son, Cruz, which is Torticollis. However, the CT scan revealed that it was Lambdoid Craniosynostosis.

After the surgery, Dove will need to stay in the hospital for a week. She is also expected to spend weeks of recovery when they reach home.

The entire family is nervous about the neurosurgery, but they remain positive that Dove will be okay after the surgery.

What is Lambdoid Craniosynostosis?

In Mellencamp's Instagram post, she described her daughter's condition as a rare type of craniosynostosis.

According to the St. Louis Children's Hospital, lambdoid craniosynostosis is a condition when the bones at the back of an infant's skull fuse prematurely. Normally, the skull only closes after reaching adulthood.

When the skull closes too soon, this may affect not only the baby's appearance but also the child's brain development.

Health experts suggest that parents address this at an early age. That is to avoid complications in brain development. Preferably, babies with lambdoid craniosynostosis should be treated before they reach six months old.

There are two options to treating this condition, one is through an endoscopic repair, and the other is through open surgery.
