Every development in a baby's life is a milestone that parents want to cherish. Their first smile, words, or step is something parents want to witness and are waiting to happen.

As babies grow, they also start to develop physical movements that mean independent mobility. The first step to that, according to Dr. Rallie McAllister, is crawling.

Since this is one of the things that parents wait for, they often ask, "When do babies crawl?"

According to experts, the first time babies crawl vary.

When do babies crawl?

Crawling may start when babies are on their sixth to the tenth month.

Some studies show that babies begin crawling in their eighth month, although some start before the sixth month or until after eleven months.

So, to the question, "When do babies crawl," the answer would always vary, especially because babies skip crawling altogether and start walking.

The "tummy time."

Some experts say that babies could start crawling through the help of parents as well.

Crawling may begin through the supervised tummy time. That is when babies spend some time lying on their stomachs. Through this process, babies can build their shoulder and neck muscles.

This step is also the gateway to babies being able to try moves like planking, turning in circles, moving forward step, and more.

What are the different styles of baby's crawl?

Along with the question, "When do babies crawl?" parents ask if the style of crawl observed in babies is normal or if the baby is on the right track.

Belly-Crawling

Some babies start crawling on their bellies before speeding around on their elbows and knees.

This style of crawling is common-babies on their fifth to the eighth-month crawl on their bellies.

There are two types of belly-crawling: the army crawl where a baby pulls their body forward with their arms; the other is called an inchworm crawl where a baby rises slightly and lands on a belly flop.

Classic crawl

This type of crawl is the more common one among babies. This crawling is when babies use their hands and knees to move around.

Sometimes, if the baby starts with belly crawling, they are expected to switch to the classic crawl. However, belly-crawling is not a must.

As parents ask, "When do babies crawl?" it is either they are excited or are starting to worry.

According to experts, as long as babies show progress, there should be nothing to worry about.

However, parents should also take note if the baby does not show enough progress according to his or her age. During that time, parents should also consider talking to their pediatrician to clarify things.
