Emmy Winners 2015: 'Game of Thrones,' 'Veep' Come Out On Top -- Recap & Complete List of Winners

The 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards was held last Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California. A new roster of TV shows and actors received recognition in their outstanding performances.

According to BBC, since "Game of Thrones" debuted in 2011 it was the first time for HBO's hit fantasy series to win the best drama series award. It also received an award for best writing, best direction and best supporting actor for Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister in the series.

On the other hand, Viola Davis made history after receiving an Emmy best actress award in a drama series for her performance in ABC's "How to Get Away with Murder" as a high-powered defense attorney, CNN reports.

Davis was the first African-American woman to receive such recognition. In her acceptance speech she said, "The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there."

On the other hand, Jon Hamm has finally won a best actor award for "Mad Men" after having been nominated for seven times before. According to USA Today, Hamm's recognition was very well-deserved, but it shouldn't have taken eight tries for the actor to receive recognition for his portrayal of Don Draper.
